A free day for children and elders

Rhythms of Unity

Friday 10 April 2026

Firstsite, Colchester

One day, two generations, one circle of drums: children and elders from across Colchester learning to play together.

Colchester Life in the UK brought children, with their parents, and elders from the city’s communities to Firstsite for a free day of sitting yoga, African storytelling, dance, drumming and art.

The Abuletic King led the drumming: first in a circle inside the workshop room, then out in the garden and in front of the gallery, with the band, a keyboard and a drum for everyone.
