Onídìrí

(one who plaits hair)

Saturday 22 August 20263pm to 8pmRipple Centre, Barking, London

A festival named after the women who plait hair: a celebration of African hair, beauty and enterprise, with the drum at its heart.

The second Onídìrí Festival filled the Ripple Centre in Barking for an afternoon of hair, fashion, stalls and performance, organised by the Roots and Radiance Network.

The Abuletic King brought the talking drum and the band to the stage, and the festival’s women danced to it in prints made for the day, the word Onídìrí written all over them.
